I’m a huge fan of DonorsChoose and all they do for our schools. I know of no other organization like it; donors select individual projects for classrooms and even receive thank you cards and pictures from the children. It’s a wonderful move away from the black hole philanthropy that frustrates so many donors who don’t really know how their contributions are being spent. There’s also no better time to support our schools. Through Donors Choose I’ve experienced the fun of sponsoring class trips to Broadway, buying a telescope for an astronomy club that didn’t have one (can you even imagine?), even sending a well-deserving student to Europe so he could join the rest of his class despite his individual financial situation. I encourage everyone to check out http://www.donorschoose.org/ this holiday season!

Great to see such a move from non-profits. Charity gift cards is a great idea. We may promote this idea on Maggwire, as we already promote gift ideas not only for Christmas holiday season, but for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or any occasion.
