After years of listening to corporate grantmakers and board members from the business world go on about how nonprofits needed to better measure and report their "impact" and not just report on "outputs," this struggle has been interesting for me to watch. I could report how many calls our crisis line received but not how many cases of elder abuse were prevented by giving a caregiver advice on how to deal with challenging behaviors and helping that caregiver feel less alone. Now the world of business is struggling with a similar problem, and I am watching closely to see how or if it can be solved.
