After reading my own post, I felt compelled to share a bit more about where my thinking and my presentation are heading - as I realize I cut you all short of the real meat that is to come!
Libraries are a cornerstone of community, a key leader and participant, and as such there is a tremendous opportunity to be a core collaborator for civic change. When we understand the way communities work, and the way an organization can operate with the same characteristics, we open door to collective empowerment and social impact.
As a retired librarian, 22 years with the Washington State Library at a large branch at a state hospital, and 7 years with MultiCare Health System as a medical librarian, I agree that libraries are and should be at the forefront. Libraries at nonprofits, such as health systems, are changing rapidly as collections are becoming digital and transactions online. The main problem, especially tax based libraries, is funding as the number of transactions are increasing but anti-government, anti-public employees, and anti-tax mood is increasing.

And that’s what I’m REALLY excited for 😊
