The Women’s Foundation of California (http://www.womensfoundca.org) sponsors a number of donor circles (their term) in the state, some focused on a geographical area, others on an issue area. I belong to the Women of Silicon Valley Circle, which is working to ensure economic security for low income women and girls in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, through investment in education programs. I’ve been part of it for 3 years and it has been a wonderful learning experience. Not only have I learned a lot about how to work out my priorities, how to do “due diligence” and assess a nonprofit, and much about the state of education in the Bay Area, I have also found myself a part of a group of wonderful, thoughtful women who span the political spectrum, but who all want to support the advancement of young women. I really can’t recommend the giving circle experience enough!
