There was a real boom in the sector ten years ago including Paul’s great work at Hewlett. It was a time when many of the top social entrepreneurs launched their organizations (from Room to Read to Donors Choose to iMentor) and many organizations were launched to support these efforts (Draper Richards Foundation, Ashoka US Program, New Profit. Blue Ridge Foundation, Bridgespan, etc.). Taproot, too, just turned 10 and it has been wonderful to have seen our work evolve with this class of leaders. Very proud to be associated.
Pete York’s work at TCC group provides the greatest potential for the sector for the next ten years. It is the first time I have seen a really smart and extensible working model for driving innovation and effectiveness for all nonprofits and not just the “scaling darlings”.
It also seems that there as been a more recent boom in the sector with a lot of exciting new organizations and thinkers emerging in the last couple years. I hope they can set a new bar for excellence in the sector and push us 10-year-olds to work harder and smarter.

It was a privilege to see this graceful summary of the bureaucracy’s footprint on our dynamic phlanthropy universe as the writer leaves for dry land.
