We support the important work of the Plastic Disclosure project, but your article incorrectly credits the Ocean Recovery Alliance with bringing global attention to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
The global attention is a result of the collective work of hundreds of organizations around the globe, starting as early as 2004 or before; several films and many ocean voyages by various research groups. The work continues and is still far from reaching the status of “global attention”.
Furthermore, the problem of plastic pollution is largely due to disposable plastic - plastic items specifically made to be thrown away. How much plastic is in a lipstick tube is less important than its End of Life plan. We urge socially conscious investors to look into companies that own the responsibility for the entire lifecycle of plastic products; or companies that specifically aim to reduce their overall plastic footprint.
