In your article “Giving Donors Control” UWCNM strikes a cord that many nonprofit managers and administrators struggle with on a daily basis. I applaud you innovative ideas to solving the delima of raising administrative vs. program dollars.
I picked out three critical ingredients of this plan’s success. First, the feasibility study was conducted to get donor feedback. Second, there was an existing core of local businesses and individual donors that had previously provided some level of support. Third, your organization had the expertise to establish and execute a highly-effective corporate recognition plan. Although your plan worked well for your organization, there are probably not many other organizations with similar scenarios.
Nonetheless, I am entrigued by the idea of soliciting corporate support for administrative costs. For an organization like ours that receives substantial government funding, this would help in several ways. Many government grants simply do not allow for administrative costs. Also, increased corporate support can help support match requirements.
