Quest Outreach in Vancouver, BC runs grocery stores filled with called items from large wholesalers and grocery stores. Social service agencies refer their clients to Quest to purchase food for a fraction of the price in a regular store. Quest also donates food to social service agencies such as the food bank and snacks for vulnerable children in schools. A great initiative. Check out the film Just Eat It to learn more about the food waste issue. Excellent film.
When human beings come together great feats are accomplished. Reading this article makes me ponder of what governments around the world could achieve by operating scientifically and godly. Yet operating with common sense seems not that simple. This article is encouraging. I believe in innovation.
TEIHPI.org has been trying to change the way the major TV and Film producers in Los Angeles dispose of their leftover food since 2009 as a 501(c)(3) i with very limited sucess. It’s virtualy impossible to find people who will donate to our project. Very frustraiting.
Great article. Wonderful to see government and organisations embracing innovative solutions to food waste problems. In Ireland, http://www.foodcloud.ie makes the redistribution of surplus food as easy as possible, matching businesses with too much food, with charities in their community that have too little, tackling food waste and food poverty in the process. To date, FoodCloud have facilitated the redistribution of 250 tonnes of surplus food to a growing network of charities right around the country.
