I recommend you and readers of this post have a look at a recent article by Remko Berkhout on social innovation that suggests that much of the enthusiasm (and money) directed at these kinds of initiatives are really ignoring the fundamentally political realities and interests that underpin exclusion. I’m not a Middle East expert, but that seems to apply particularly well in the region.
Mr. Doumit - this is a very interesting and awesome read! I would like to add one more dimension to the debate which is no longer about #Arab or/vs #non-Arab - it’s about 1 region and the social, economic and environmental challenges and opportunities they face - it’s about MENARising. When possible I would love to discuss with you social entrepreneurship in Iran and neighboring countries. For what matters also, is the push for more transparency and openness, as well as getting the positive stories from the region in traditional media.
I think this article is really interesting. I want to know more about how SE can use financial support and there are opportunities for foreign companies to join to support these grassroots actions.
