Thanks for sharing your thoughts about where the social enterprise sector is headed. I especially liked the statement at the end of your article about the need for “better plumbing” to advance the social enterprise sector. While there’s no denying the importance of funds, a supportive ecosystem should also include strengthening the people and work processes behind the social change mission so that social enterprises are well-positioned to achieve their goals and also make the best use of financial resources. Organizational capacity building is an area often overlooked in the social enterprise community and is a gap that my business, Shifting Patterns Consulting, has sought to address.
This SSIR article is spot-on regarding the “business responsibility” shifts that are underway. In my work with for-profit professional- and and B2B services companies, I observe their distinct and increasing sensitivity to their social impact on the world. Their clients, too, increasingly expect that the business and professional service providers they hire will go further to harness their people and their lines of business to make a positive difference in society—globally. Thank you, SSIR, for highlighting this important issue!

Lets hope Wall Street firms don’t treat the social business space like they treated the housing Market space during the last two decades!
