Excellent Article, our population keeps growing but, unfortunately, our level of Education is not keeping pace with the growth. To reverse this trend mentoring students and educating parents as to the importance of education are paramount. Most Latinos attending college have done it with little guidance or mentoring. In general, our parents do not value higher education as other groups in the US do. This is our experience: Our company hosts 3 FREE college financial nights per month, targeting high school students, the events are well attended, but the number of Latinos attending our seminars are less than one percent. We have targeted our community, but the results have been dismal. Based on our numbers, an uneducated Latino population could potentially become a drag on the economy. Together, we can wake up the uneducated sleeping giant, not only for the sake of our community, for the security and prosperity of this wonderful nation.
Miguel, thanks for your insightful observations. I think we can turn the tide with new ideas and strategies and by building and strengthening collaborations with clearly defined goals and articulated mutual accountabilities. I’d love to chat with you about what your company is doing and explore ways to build on those efforts to seek and achieve greater goals. Let me know if you would like to connect for a conversation, perhaps by phone. Thanks
