This article really helped me understand what community really meant. It helped me on one of my essays at school, and it is still credible. So thank you very much!!!
I enjoyed reading this article! I liked how you used the example of the Russian Matryoshka dolls, this is a very clear visual of community. I think it’s important as humans that we understand the importance of communities like you said and treasure the communities we are apart of. I like the thought of the meaning of community requires more thoughtfulness and deliberation than we typically give it. It can and does play a crucial part of change and growth in communities.
Thanks so much for writing this this meaningful piece. I am a student of General Agriculture. Until I recently began taking a community development course as part of my study program, my only understanding of community has been the physical environments, e.g. neighborhoods or towns. Your article has helped me understand that the meaning of community goes far beyond what I thought it to be. Moreover, I understand how significant communities are in our daily life.
It will interest you to note that you have ignited my interest to explore deeper in understanding and working into communities.
I enjoyed the comment by: Summer L. Rhodes. Yes I believe that the community requires not only thoughtfulness, but also understanding and continued re-evaluation to enable progression of education and growth of the community.
When Americans use the word "community," as in "community policing," they are using it as a euphemism for "socialism," because God forbid that they admit that we have many forms of socialism working perfectly well in this country.
Quote: "Members of a community have a sense of trust, belonging, safety, and caring for each other. They have an individual and collective sense that they can, as part of that community, influence their environments and each other. That treasured feeling of community comes from shared experiences and a sense of—not necessarily the actual experience of—shared history. As a result, people know who is and isn’t part of their community."
There is no such shared feeling among homeless people. You might as well call a group of random people on a street corner, waiting for a bus, "a community." Maybe you can refer to the group as "the homeless world"?
I really appreciate you writing this insightful essay. I’m a general agriculture student. My main experience of community, up until recently when I started taking a community development course as part of my study program, has been the physical contexts, such as neighborhoods or towns. My understanding of the notion of community has been greatly expanded thanks to your writing. Furthermore, I am aware of the importance of communities in our day-to-day lives.
You might find it interesting to know that you’ve piqued my curiosity about going further in understanding and working with communities.

Stop calling homelessness "the homeless ‘community’."
