This is a very well written article. I speak often about board development and the importance of diversity among members, but more often than not, people are not thinking about or considering AGE diversity.
I am employed as the chief staff officer of a state construction trade association. We have begun a leadership development program for Millennials and Gen X’ers that initially deploys these professionals on our association committees and will directly lead into board roles with our 19 member BoD. In the interim, participants in the leadership development program are attending board meetings as our guests and attend board social functions at our annual meeting. Among our most popular educational programs at the annual meeting are effective inter-generational workplace communications. We are attempting to get younger but it won’t happen overnight.

Before the Millennials comes Gen X. They are the next naturally in line for succession.

Great article Anna, and I definitely agree with you. I’m a 20 year old business student and highly engaged in ways people can use business as a force for good. Last month I wrote about the exact same topic as you, but yours is more in depth and researched, thank you.
