Speaker Bios

Eric Brown, Principal, Brownbridge Strategies

Eric Brown is the principal of Brownbridge Strategies, a consulting firm that provides services on strategy and communications to nonprofits and foundations. Prior to that, for almost eleven years Brown was the communications director for the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in Menlo Park, Calif. He has also had leadership roles on a number of nonprofit organizations. He has been a member of the board of the Communications Network since 2005, and he served as Board Chair from 2009-2011. Before working at the Hewlett Foundation, he served as communications director at the Center for a New American Dream, as a press secretary and speechwriter for Congresswoman Nydia M. Velazquez, and as a political media consultant at Murphy Putnam Media. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley and recently earned a master’s degree in liberal arts from Stanford University, where his thesis research examined the presidency of Rwandan leader Paul Kagame.

Andy Goodman, Cofounder, The Goodman Center

Andy Goodman is cofounder of The Goodman Center and is an internationally recognized expert on storytelling. Along with the book, Storytelling as Best Practice, he is author of Why Bad Ads Happen to Good Causes and Why Bad Presentations Happen to Good Causes. He also publishes a monthly journal, free-range thinking, to share best practices in the field. He has been invited to speak at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Affairs at Princeton, as well as at major foundation and nonprofit conferences across North America. He serves on the board of directors of Imagine LA, an organization working to end homelessness in Los Angeles, and is currently developing a course on storytelling for the African Leadership University. 

Michael Slind, Senior Editor, Stanford Social Innovation Review

Michael Slind is senior editor of Stanford Social Innovation Review. He has extensive experience as a writer, editor, and publishing professional. Slind is coauthor, with Boris Groysberg, of Talk, Inc.: How Trusted Leaders Use Conversation to Power Their Organizations (Harvard Business Review Press, 2012). Previously, he worked at Harvard Business School, where he wrote widely used case studies on corporate strategy and entrepreneurial management. Earlier in his career, he served as managing editor and as a senior editor at Fast Company magazine.
