Data for Community-Driven Solutions
How can we use data to empower citizens? Does data really help communities or just big companies? Is there such as thing as bad data? Should government make data more public? How would that affect citizens?
This series will highlight specific interventions that can help drive a more networked, inclusive, and open society. It will focus on data for impact, and present some of the opportunities and challenges posed by new technologies. It will also offer theories and models for better using data to achieve positive social outcomes. Each post will outline current policies, and present solutions-based policy and service alternatives.
Series contributors include experts in social impact, technology, and public policy: Sonal Shah, executive director the Beeck Center; Hollie Russon Gilman, post-doctoral scholar in technology and public policy at Columbia University, and fellow at the Beeck Center on Civic Technology and Civic Engagement; Peter Levin, CEO of Amida-Tech solutions and former CTO of the Veteran’s Administration; Marta Urquilla, deputy director at the Beeck Center, and former deputy at the Office of Social Innovation; and Jim Shelton, chief impact officer at 2U, and former deputy secretary of education.
