Making the Gig Economy Work for Workers
The gig economy is here to stay, but workers around the world describe their experience as precarious, stressful, and unsustainable over the long term. Where is this sector headed? How do we make sure businesses continue to create high-quality jobs and safe, fair working conditions?
Anup Kaphle, editor-in-chief of the global nonprofit publication Rest of World, moderates a panel discussion on these questions as part of SSIR’s 2023 Data on Purpose conference. He was joined by Maria Noel of Fernandez of Working Partnerships USA, Biju Mathew of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, and David Weil of The Heller School of Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.
Listen to their discussion on topics ranging from how workers are organizing to fight back to the outsize influence big companies have over political and regulatory processes related to employment.
