In the middle of Pride Month, in the midst of nationwide protests against the murders of Black lives, thousands of people gathered outside the Brooklyn Museum and marched throughout the borough on June 14, 2020.
They rallied for Black trans people, to testify that, within the movement of Black Lives Matter, Black Trans Lives Matter, too. The protester featured above wore trans pride flag-colored wings.
Organizers estimate that 15,000 people took part in the rally, many of whom wore white in homage to the NAACP’s 1917 Silent Parade in New York City, where approximately 10,000 protesters wearing white marched down Fifth Avenue to call for an end to violence against Black people.
This rally illustrates the increasing success and power of the Black Lives Matter movement as a coalition that centers on the most marginalized.
